LG’s Blog has a new design for a projector that won the 2006 iF Design Gold Award. Even though there is no real technological breakthrough in performance, this uber sleek design is really impressive.

Aesthetically, LG’s wall mounted projector is an industrial work of art — taking home the 2006 iF Design Gold Award. This projector puts convenience first with a remote controlled lens door, auto focus, zoom, and venitilator. It features near silent operation (25 db) and can project a 100-inch image from a distance of 3.8m - 5.3m. No word yet on if this concept will go into production.

This is the kind of projector I would have in my room, it’s too bad my room isn’t really that big, and there’s no way I’m sharing this with the rest of my frat brothers. Where’s my friend that agrees with me.

For those fortunate individuals who have already found themselves in the HD world goodness, then you can appreciate Sony’s efforts in released a whole slew of DVD Upscaling players for your theatre-like experience. This comes nicely especially since HD DVD and Blu-ray players are taking there time as well as the actual content. Upscaling is a technology that converts DVD content - playing at 480p - to 720p or 1080i. Keep in mind this is not true HD, but only a conversion.

Everyone is jumping on the HDTV bandwagon, but what technology should I invest in? Well, depends on several factors, but wait a second. Here comes another display technology. Mitsubishi will be accouncing this new method of display said to…

uses colored lasers to display bright, deep images on large, thin, lightweight screens — surpassing images seen on film. The television sets, which Mitsubishi is calling the first of their kind, are expected to reach stores sometime late next year.

It will consume a third of energy of older conventional models and having a smaller footprint than plasma and LCD displays. I think the writer said it best that…

“Television used to be very, very simple,” he said. “You bought a big one or a small one that was black and white or color.”

That has all changed, Mr. Schadler said. “Now we’ve got complexity like buying real estate or buying a car or something,” he said. “It’s just gotten tremendously complicated.”

Canon and Toshiba are working on a S.E.D. (surface-conduction electron-emitter display) television sets to be introduced sometime next year. SEDs are claimed to have the superior image quality found in CRT televsions but with the power consumption and thinness as LCD televisions.
