AOL Ripped Off Yahoo’s Design

This is too funny. Web designers/developers borrow stuff all the time and yes, there are good practices when making some kind of layout, but this goes a little bit far beyond simply using similar elements. AOL blatantly ripped off Yahoo’s homepage. That says a lot about the company and the creative department. Unless the Art or Creative Director changed jobs from Yahoo to AOL, I have little respect for them.

Look and feel are practically the same: the use of pixel icons in a long list on the side bar to the left, the upper right hand corner with the mailbox area, the freakin’ search area and more small subtilties. C’mon man!

  1. Love the grid layout presentation. Working at Widemile, I’m always amazed at design work and seeing that step by step process of how that guy works out his design is so insightful. It shows a lot about how design is often beyond just “eyeing” it and really can be a science and have its methods.
