Twitter + Google Maps = TwitterVision

Entering new post on TwitterVision
Twitter just turned visual and it is awesome! David Troy does a kick ass job of implementing a mash up of the ever so addictive Twitter with the Google Maps API. The result is a real time view of people Twittering around the world! TwitterVision made me realize two things, how global Twitter has become and that there isn’t a concentrated source of Twitter users. In fact, the map kept jumping between continents with new updates. It’s a great way to really get a feeling of how much this is becoming part of our everyday lives.

Upon realizing this cool mash up, I also noticed some syntax that has come out of Twitter. The use of the “@” symbol is used to reply directly back to an individuals tweet. That’s a no brainer, but what was also interesting is the use of the “L:” notation. Using it before a geographical location helps users denote that the poster is referring to a location. I’m curious to see what else comes out of this. I would in the meantime like to see nested forms of twittering (yes, twittering is now officially a word in my dictionary) since it’s so hard to keep up. Then again, I don’t have a very large network so it’s a little irrelevant. So add me as a friend already!!!

  1. Oh-woops, I meant to comment on your “Reason #287 for leaving MySpace” … isn’t it horrid? Evidently with their sort of money there’s no need to even /spehl/ Bayes. meh.

No, I meant to comment on your “problem spaces”, but couldn’t find it, so since I’ve been twittering and tweeting my time away … have you peeked “Atlas“? It’s actually a sweet site … registering at the homepage got me access to mapped blogs. The tweets site I pointed to here is like TVision on steroids.

This to say hello. (Long long ago I was into arch and social dynamics. Now I’m more into trying to encourage civil debate i.e. “evidence-based discourse”.)

    cheers
