Pre Game Show At Microsoft

So it was my first official day at Microsoft. I only call it offocial because I am now on payroll (woot!). It was a pretty basic orientation for new employees (NEO). Nothing really exciting except listening to all the nifty benefits as an employee and getting my wicked cool CardKey. Even though the picture is horrible, it really started to make me feel I belong, so to speak. There were 50 other interns that showed up, mostly in IT. They are certainly a nice bunch of people, mostly all over the United States and even some from other countries like Germany and Peru. It’s honestly been eye opening to meet other people from other backgrounds.  Lately I’ve been so wrapped around the Greek community and among my brothers that it’s almost refreshing to hear different people talk. Even though I am a local, I ironically felt I was the one out of place. Considering it is only day one, I’m not too worried. By example of last year when I was at Safeco, all of us interns got together a lot and became pretty good friends quickly. I just need to figure out what the intern mailing list is so that we can start arranging intern outings and show them what Seattle can really offer. Lucky for them, summer in Seattle is absolutely gorgeous, minus the weather it is having this week.

My manager recently informed me that I will be given a Tablet PC. This is actually awesome because incase I needed to run home quickly or needed to leave early during fall quarter for something like Chapter meetings at the fraternity, I can make up the work at home. All I need is to ensure I have permissions to Remote Access. Other than that, there really isn’t too much to report. Tomorrow will be my actual first day on site at Issaquah in the Sammamish location. I overheard a lot of the interns will be located there as well. That means big intern lunches. Fun. Now I just need to figure out the damn bus thing. Being an hour and a half bus ride, I might consider working at 9AM instead of 8AM (ugh).
